2026 Mediterranean Games – Boxing: Morocco wins two gold medals and one silver

On Thursday, Moroccan boxers clinched two gold medals and one silver at the Mediterranean Games in Taranto, Italy.

Saïda Lahmidi secured the gold in the under-70 kg category after France’s Maïlys Richaud withdrew before the final.

In the men’s events, Slimane Samghouli captured gold in the under-65 kg category with a narrow 3-2 victory against Algeria’s Ismaïl Bakhchiss.

Widad Bertal earned a silver medal in the under-54 kg category, succumbing to Italy’s Sirine Chaarabi with a score of 4-1 in the final. Bertal reached the final by decisively beating France’s Wassila Lkhadiri 5-0.

Lahmidi advanced to the final after defeating Turkey’s Dilara Sak in the semi-final, with the referee halting the bout due to a pronounced imbalance.

Samghouli’s journey to the final included a dominant 5-0 win over Serbia’s Dmitry Artemovitch Gorbenko.

Earlier, on Wednesday, Moroccan boxers had already secured three bronze medals, thanks to performances by Abdelhak Nadir (-70 kg), Mounia Toutir (-65 kg), and Yasmine Mouttaki (-51 kg).
