15th Title Secured: Egypt’s U20 Handball Team Wins African Championship
Egypt’s U20 men’s handball team has done it again. The young Pharaohs came from behind to defeat Tunisia 31–29 in the final of the African Men’s Junior Handball Championship in Ivory Coast, securing the continental title and another piece of silverware for Egypt’s handball powerhouse.
A Comeback Worth Celebrating
It wasn’t an easy final. Tunisia took control early, heading into halftime with a 14–11 lead and putting Egypt on the back foot.
But the second half was a completely different story. Led by coach Tarek Mahrous, the Egyptian side came out firing, turned the deficit around and eventually pulled ahead to close out the match 31–29.
And just like that, the trophy was heading back to Egypt.
Fifteen African Titles
The victory marks Egypt’s 15th African Men’s Junior Handball Championship title, further cementing the country’s dominance in youth handball on the continent.
Even more impressively, this is the fourth consecutive title for the Egyptian national team — a pretty clear sign that the next generation of Pharaohs is keeping the winning tradition very much alive.
World Championship Bound
The win also comes with a ticket to the 2027 Men’s Junior World Championship, with Egypt securing qualification after reaching the semi-finals. Tunisia also secured its place at next year’s World Championship.
Before reaching the final, Egypt had already made a statement in the semi-finals, cruising past Angola 37–10 to book its place in the title decider.
Another Trophy for the Pharaohs
From a shaky first half to a full comeback, Egypt’s young handball stars showed exactly why the country continues to be such a force in African handball.
Fifteen titles, four in a row, and now a spot at the 2027 World Championship — the future of Egyptian handball is looking pretty good.
