15 swimmers set for Africa Zone 2 Championship in Senegal

The Nigeria Aquatics Federation (NAqF) has named 15 swimmers for the 2026 Africa Aquatics Zone 2 Junior Swimming Championship scheduled for Dakar, Senegal, from August 28 to 30.

The team comprises 11 female and four male swimmers and will be coached by Christopher Ezemegwalu.

The championship will form part of Nigeria’s preparations for the 2026 Youth Olympic Games, with the federation using the competition to assess the young swimmers ahead of the Games.

The selected swimmers are India Brown, Omolola Akinsanmi, Atinuke Alfred-Olajide, Boluwatife Alfred-Olajide, Oluwatofunmi Ibidapo, Aviva Hibbert, Kristabel Chisa Oldeide, Ivanna Itoandon. Others are Toluwalase Agarau, Tireniolu Olutodimu Nedd, Olutise Temilolu Nedd, Aidan Dumuje-Abili, Demilade Ayemowa, Oluwatimilehin Olaiya and Udoh Daniel Emediong.

Members of the delegation are departing Nigeria in batches ahead of the championship.

After the Dakar event, the swimmers are expected to compete in the “Swim to the Future” competition in September and the National Intermediate Games in October.

NAqF said the programme is designed to give the swimmers regular competition and improve their readiness for bigger international assignments.
