Unguja. The Zanzibar Tourism Commission has partnered with Young Africans SC (Yanga) to promote Zanzibar as a premier tourist destination, unveiling the slogan “Visit Zanzibar” as part of their new campaign.
The official agreement was signed in Zanzibar, with the Zanzibar Tourism Commission’s Executive Secretary, Mr. Arif Abbas, and Yanga SC President, Hersi Said, in attendance.
The event was graced by the Minister of Tourism and Heritage, Mudrik Soraga, who hailed the partnership as a significant milestone in raising Zanzibar’s profile as a top global travel destination.
As part of the agreement, Yanga SC will display the “Visit Zanzibar” logo on their jerseys throughout the 2025/2026 season, both in domestic and international competitions.
The initiative aims to promote Zanzibar’s unique attractions, draw in both local and regional tourists, and expand its reach to a global audience.
Mr. Abbas emphasised the power of sports in boosting tourism, noting, “Yanga’s large and diverse following across Africa, along with their international players, makes this partnership an invaluable tool in positioning Zanzibar as a top travel destination.”
Yanga President Hersi Said expressed the club’s strong commitment to supporting local tourism, stating, “There’s no need to travel to Ibiza or Dubai when Zanzibar offers the same, if not more. We are proud to use our platform to encourage both Tanzanians and international tourists to discover the beauty of our islands.”
Minister Soraga praised the initiative, recognising that Zanzibar faces tough competition from other island destinations.
He noted that creative partnerships like this one will enhance Zanzibar’s appeal in the global tourism market.
The collaboration marks a strategic fusion of sports and tourism, leveraging Yanga SC’s widespread influence to showcase Zanzibar’s rich history, vibrant culture, and stunning natural beauty on the world stage.
