The government, through the Ministry of Education, Science, and Technology, has made significant strides in reforming the education sector to enhance the skills acquired through practical training, thereby improving the quality of education in the country.
This was articulated on March 28, 2025, by the Minister of Education, Science, and Technology, prof. Adolph Mkenda, during the closing of a training program for secondary school teachers specializing in Mathematics and Science in Singida.
“He emphasized that these reforms aim to foster innovative thinking among students, enabling them to become creative and resourceful in applying science and technology.
Furthermore, Prof. Mkenda highlighted the government’s commitment to improving educational quality in collaboration with the Office of the President and the Regional Administration and Local Government (TAMISEMI) through the Secondary Education Quality Improvement Project (SEQUIP), which provides modern teaching methodologies for educators.
He expressed optimism that the training would lead to an increase in students’ comprehension of their subjects and equip them with skills for innovative thinking, as teachers empower students to analyze, reflect, and solve challenges using their knowledge.
Additionally, Prof. Mkenda noted the positive outcomes of implementing directives from President Dr. Samia Suluhu Hassan, who emphasized during the launch of the New Education and Training Policy in 2014 (2023 Edition) that educational reforms should be professional and consider expert opinions to enhance the education sector’s contribution to national development.
In another development, he mentioned that through the Dr. Samia Scholarship, over 600 students who completed their secondary education with high marks in “science and mathematics ” have received funding to pursue higher education at various universities, a move seen as a catalyst for encouraging students to engage with and appreciate these subjects.
These educational reforms aim to strengthen a system that aligns with President Samia’s philosophy focused on promoting technology, development, and innovation.
