Western Province Beat Defending Champs Dolphins for Hollywoodbets Pro20 Trophy

World Sport Betting Western Province have capped a faultless season of Hollywoodbets Pro20 Cricket by beating 2024 series defending champions KZN by 48 runs to win the inaugural sponsored title at home in Newlands, Cape Town, on Sunday, 23 March, 2025.

Whether at home or away, the Western Province women are unbeaten in their 10 fixtures in the season, the only points lost to a washed out match against the very Dolphins, at Hollywoodbets Kingsmead on 2 March earlier this month, to win the series by a yawning gap of 12 points ahead of second-placed Dolphins.

Winning the toss, Dolphins skipper Zintle Mali elected to field first and her decision paid early dividends, Nonkululeko Mlaba (2/21 in 4 overs), Ayanda Hlubi (2/17 in 4) and Jade de Figueiredo (1/24 in 3) taking care of the home top order Faye Tunnicliffe (2 off 8 balls), Dané van Niekerk (1 off 6) and Lara Goodall (7 off 11) to have the aspirant champions struggling at 25/3 in the 6th over.

Match-winner Nadine de Klerk (74 off 48 balls) settled the nerves with a remarkable innings strengthened at the end by Delmi Tucker (14 off 16 balls) and more so by SA U19 skipper Kayla Reyneke (36 off 16), to allow Province to score 142/8 in their 20 overs.

In reply, opener Nicole de Klerk (20 off 23 balls) and Nondumiso Shangase (27 off 22) were the mainstays of a poor Hollywoodbets Dolphins Women innings, and with Reyneke taking both their wickets in an innings-defining tally of four wickets for 10 runs in 4 overs, Leah Jones (2 for 12 in 22 deliveries) and Delmi Tucker (2/26 in 4 overs) each contributing two wickets apiece, the visitors were eventually bundled out for 94 in the penultimate over of their innings.

2025 Pro50 Cricket champions the DP World Lions finished their season in third place, although their final defeat at the hands of the Fidelity Titans at Wanderers on Sunday would have left a bitter taste, after an unbeaten run of five consecutive matches to start the series last year.

Anneke Bosch (79 off 47 balls) and Suné Luus (51 off 51) were the champions of the Titans win, posting 149/5 before restricting the Lions to 137/6 for a 12-run win, despite the keen efforts of their top order Kirstie Thomson (45 off 44 balls), Tazmin Brits (27 off 20) and Karabo Meso (38 off 38), with wickets shared around by both teams.

Free State Women continued their poor form with a loss at home to complete the season, they avoid relegation by remaining six points above the Six Gun Garden Route Badgers, the protagonists in the Free State’s home loss when the visitors proved their character by securing their single win of the season, restricting the home side to an under-par 117/8 before reaching the asking total 118/8, with three deliveries to spare.
