Mamelodi Sundowns manager Miguel Cardoso believes the PSL Player of the Season award is firmly in Lucas Ribeiro Costa’s hands. But again, who doesn’t?
The Brazilian has been hitting purple patches all season, providing twenty goals and assists in twenty-four league matches. It’s the type of numbers that would make Cristiano Ronaldo proud.
A born killer, Ribeiro knows no bounds, scoring with ease, and is more than happy to put his teammates on the scoresheet.
It was between December 28 and February 8 when the Sundowns star proved most prolific with four assists and five goals in as many games, including that emphatic brace (and an assist) against Orlando Pirates.
He’s the PSL king, and it’s not even close.
Words from Cardoso
“A player like Lucas is clearly the player of the league this season, that has expressed himself not only this year but has been [consistent] but this year he exploded,” Cardoso explained.
“He just brings good things, the question is that sometimes people look at a player and I’m not speaking about today, they look at a player or a team and they expect a goal after goal after goal and they don’t relate to the level that he promotes to the other ones.”
“I’ve been hearing that he’ll probably be elected Player of the Season and the stats he has, the numbers he has of the season are amazing on assists, on goals and the quality. I think he’s a player that brings something on the pitch so I’m really happy to have him,” the PSL coach concluded.
