The government, through the Ministry of Health, has invested 5 billion shillings for the construction of a radiotherapy center and the procurement of medical equipment at the Northern Zone Referral Hospital (KCMC) to enhance healthcare services and reach a larger population in the region.
This was announced by the Minister of Health, Hon. Jenista Mhagama, during her visit to KCMC on March 1, 2025, to assess the progress of the construction of the facility that will provide cancer treatment through radiotherapy. She expressed satisfaction with the ongoing construction.
“The health sector is not competitive; we collaborate to ensure that we provide quality healthcare services to all citizens,” Minister Mhagama said .
She noted that this radiotherapy center will be one of the few facilities in the country offering cancer treatment through radiotherapy, staffed by highly trained local specialists funded by the government under President Dr. Samia Suluhu Hassan.
Also , Minister Mhagama emphasized the importance of adopting a ” healthy lifestyle” by reducing the intake of fats, sugars, and salt to prevent non-communicable diseases, which have been on the rise.
“We have agreed as a government to continue a robust campaign to educate the public about non-communicable diseases, which require prolonged treatment, significant financial resources, and substantial investment to ensure these services are delivered effectively,” added Minister Mhagama.
The government is continuing to strengthening the health sector to control chronic diseases and educate citizens on preventing serious health issues affecting human well-being in the country.
