Star Wars Battle Royale coming to Fortnite with Darth Jar Jar

The Star Wars universe is once again colliding with the world of Fortnite in a new Battle Royale season titled Galactic Battle, set to launch on May 2nd. For those unfamiliar with the online phenomenon, the Darth Jar Jar theory is a popular, albeit humorous, fan conjecture suggesting that the often-maligned Jar Jar Binks was secretly a powerful Force user and potentially the true antagonist of the Star Wars prequel trilogy.

Ahmed Best, the actor who has voiced Jar Jar Binks since Star Wars Episode 1: The Phantom Menace, revealed on stage at the event that he even improvised some Darth Jar Jar lines specifically for his Fortnite appearance. When asked about his favourite improvised lines, he quipped, “‘I am the phantom menace’ was totally [improvised],” adding that it was something he’s “been meaning to say for over 20 years.”

Galactic Battle promises a fully immersive Star Wars experience within Fortnite, featuring iconic vehicles like X-Wings and TIE Fighters that players can pilot. The season will also introduce themed maps and a range of new Item Shop offerings, including the legendary Mace Windu. Players will have the opportunity to spend their earned Fortnite V-Bucks on a dedicated Star Wars-themed Battle Pass, unlocking characters such as Emperor Palpatine and a Wookiee version of Cuddle Team Leader.

The Galactic Battle season will unfold over five weeks, each with a distinct Star Wars theme, culminating in a narrative-driven live event. The currently scheduled themes, as outlined by StarWars.com, are:

This latest integration is far from the first interaction between these two major pop culture franchises. Star Wars-themed cosmetic skins have been available in Fortnite since 2019. Notably, the previous year saw a significant expansion of Star Wars elements throughout the entire Fortnite ecosystem, extending into its Lego and rhythm game spinoffs, demonstrating the depth of this ongoing collaboration.

Fortnite’s current season, preceding Galactic Battle, revolves around a heist theme and has featured celebrity appearances from figures like Shohei Ohtani and Sabrina Carpenter, showcasing the game’s diverse and dynamic content strategy.
