Six parties unveil ‘CHANGE’ coalition ahead of Dec polls
Six opposition parties and movements have concluded 18 months of negotiations and agreed to contest the 2026 presidential election under a new coalition called CHANGE – Coalition for Hope, Accountability, National-renewal, Good-governance, and Equity.
The announcement was made by APeX on August 9, 2026. APeX said it facilitated the talks involving the All People’s Party – Sobeyaa, Gambia For All, National Unity Party, Tabax Rewmi Movement, and United Democratic Party. UNITE was also part of the negotiations but has since notified APeX of its departure.
According to APeX, the stakeholders are now reviewing the final Draft Coalition Agreement, including the proposed flagbearer selection process. The agreement is expected to be formally adopted on Sunday, 16 August 2026.
The flagbearer selection process will begin immediately after adoption and is scheduled to conclude by Sunday, 30 August 2026. APeX said full details of the process will be published in due course.
The coalition is calling on other opposition political parties, movements, and aspiring candidates to join. Interested parties have been asked to email admin@change2026.org.
APeX acknowledged that the negotiations were difficult, but commended the participating stakeholders for what it described as maturity, patriotism, mutual respect and a spirit of compromise.
“Their steadfast commitment to dialogue and consensus has laid the foundation for what we believe is a transformative partnership among themselves, in the service of the Gambian people,” the statement said.
