Simba brings back epic flavour, BUT there’s a catch…

Simba has brought back their fan-favourite, the Tomato Sauce flavour, after being inundated with requests from the public. But there is one glaring omission…

The potato chip company recently shared the good news, and consumers are over the moon!

SIMBA BRINGS BACK TOMATO SAUCE FLAVOUR

In a social media post, Simba revealed that they had heeded the call to bring back the Tomato Sauce flavour. The post contained a clip of countless screenshots from the public who begged the Pepsico brand to hear their plea about the savoury snack.

However, the brand omitted to mention that the flavour was not the same formula, as it is no longer associated with Tiger Brand’s All Gold Tomato Sauce. This time, the company collaborated with rival company Wellington’s Tomato Sauce, which falls under the Heinz Foods brand.

Simba posted a picture of the new-look packet, posting: “Tomato Sauce isn’t just a condiment, it’s a lifestyle. Trust us, we get it, but don’t worry – we’ve got you!”.

On social media, South Africans have been sharing their joy about finding the flavour back on their supermarket shelves…

GIVING THE PEOPLE WHAT THEY WANT…

In 2021, Simba announced that the Tomato Sauce would be discontinued after the flavour received the least votes in their “Choose Me or Lose Me” campaign. The poll ran for three months before the brand revealed the results.

Simba, Senior Marketing Director for salty snacks at PepsiCo, said in a statement: “South Africans have always loved sweet, salty, creamy, and tangy flavours. But recently, they are showing interest in meaty flavours, and flavours that evoke our braai cultures, such as Shisanyama, Chilli Biltong, and Chakalaka.

“Our tastes do gradually develop. At Simba, we need to be in touch with our customers to ensure that we’re giving them what they need and that we remain relevant in that evolving taste context”.

LAY’S FAVOURITE ALSO RETURNS!

Simba’s Tomato Sauce isn’t the only nostalgic potato chip that has returned.

Lay’s – which also falls under Pepsico – announced that it had brought back its Sour Cream and Onion flavour, which is packaged in the light green packet.

“We all love a good comeback – especially when it’s legendary!” the brand shared in a social media post.
