Sierra Leone’s Road Safety Boss Honoured for UN AGM Presentation

Following a powerful presentation at the United Nations Annual General Meeting (UN AGM) in New York on July 20, 2026, the staff of the Sierra Leone Road Safety Authority (SLRSA) presented an Award of Honour to the Executive Director, James Bagie Bio, at the SLRSA headquarters in Freetown.

The distinguished honour was presented by the Directors of Licence and Finance, Mohamed Fofanah and Joseph Momoh, respectively, through the Director of Human Resources, Assanatu Judith Mans-Bangura.

The award of appreciation presented by the staff of the SLRSA to the Executive Director is significant for three compelling and related reasons:

1. This is the first time the SLRSA, through its Executive Director, has delivered a speech on global road safety at the United Nations that received a standing ovation from all participants.
2. Sierra Leone’s profile was elevated on the global stage and received worldwide attention.
3. The issues deliberated upon and the communiqué delivered on reducing road crashes and fatalities will be domesticated in Sierra Leone.

In his response, the Executive Director of the SLRSA, James Bagie Bio, described the UN AGM success as “a collective achievement,” adding that he is “ready to implement the resounding message delivered at the UN to strengthen road safety enforcement, public education, and data-driven interventions in the country.”

The UN AGM on road safety in New York brought together road safety and transport leaders from across the world to critically review progress reports on the Global Plan for the Decade of Action for Road Safety 2021–2030.
