Sierra Leone Sets to Implement UN Road Safety Charter

The Sierra Leone Road Safety Authority SLRSA has held a constructive meeting to implement one key requirement of the United Nations Road Safety Charter, in line with the UN Decade of Action for Road Safety 2021-2030.

One of the key requirements of the UN Road Safety Charter is the mandatory use of road helmets to reduce road traffic deaths and fatalities.

The SLRSA consultative meeting, held at its corporate head office at Kissy in Freetown, brought together stakeholders from the Police, World Health Organisation, Motor Bike Drivers Union, Civil Society Movement and the Press.

Chairing the meeting, the Deputy Executive Director of SLRSA, Josie Scott-Manga, remarked that SLRSA is set to implement one key component of the UN Decade of Action for Road Safety 2021-2030. He further revealed that it is a sequel to the recent participation of the Executive Director, SLRSA, James Bagie Bio, at the UN, where he delivered a powerful and thoughtful speech.

Sierra Leone is being nominated to serve on the steering committee at tge UN to implement standard use of helmets and other road safety measures.

The UN is targeting a 50% reduction of road crashes by 2030
