Shettima arrives Sierra Leone to represent Tinubu at 69th ECOWAS Summit

…summit to deliberate on security, trade, regional integration

Vice President Kashim Shettima has arrived in Freetown, Sierra Leone, to represent President Bola Ahmed Tinubu at the 69th Ordinary Session of the Authority of Heads of State and Government of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS).

Shettima landed at the Freetown International Airport, Lungi, where Sierra Leone’s Vice President, Dr Mohamed Juldeh Jalloh, and Nigeria’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu, received him.

Also present to welcome the Vice President were the Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Sola Enikanolaiye; Nigeria’s High Commissioner to Sierra Leone, Ambassador Ayo Luther-Ogbomode; the Minister of State for Petroleum Resources (Gas), Rt. Hon. Ekperikpe Ekpo, Nigeria’s Permanent Representative to ECOWAS, Ambassador Olawale Emmanuel Awe, and other officials of the Nigerian High Commission in Sierra Leone.

The summit, to be held on Sunday at the Julius Maada Bio International Conference Centre in Freetown, will bring together Heads of State and Government from across the West African sub-region, as well as ministers, senior government officials, representatives of regional institutions and business leaders.

Deliberations at the meeting are expected to focus on key regional priorities, including strengthening peace and security, promoting democratic governance, expanding regional trade, deepening economic integration, accelerating infrastructure development, and advancing sustainable growth across West Africa.

The outcome of the meeting is expected to shape policy directions and strategic resolutions to address the region’s security, political, and economic challenges and to advance the ECOWAS integration agenda.
