Sentinel Sells Autronica: Focuses Spectrum Safety on the US

Sentinel Capital Partners has sold Autronica Fire and Security, the Norway-based fire and gas detection unit of its Spectrum Safety Solutions platform, to MSA Safety for $555 million, the second European business it has divested from Spectrum this year as it concentrates the platform on its U.S. detection and monitoring operations.

Sentinel built Spectrum Safety Solutions in 2024 through a carveout of fire and gas detection and suppression assets from Carrier Global, assembling four businesses under one platform: Autronica and Marioff in Europe, and Det-Tronics and Fireye in the United States. Over the past year, Sentinel has moved to narrow that portfolio around the two U.S. brands.

The Autronica transaction is the second step in that repositioning. In March 2026, Sentinel agreed to sell Spectrum’s Marioff unit, a Finland-based provider of high-pressure water mist fire suppression systems, to private equity firm Inflexion. The sale of Autronica to MSA Safety completes the exit from Spectrum’s European operations and leaves the platform centered on Det-Tronics and Fireye, its U.S.-headquartered detection and monitoring businesses.

Trondheim, Norway-headquartered Autronica designs, manufactures, and supplies fire detection, gas detection, and alarm systems for harsh and mission-critical environments, from flame and gas detectors to addressable fire alarm panels used aboard ships and at oil and gas, energy, and industrial sites. The company, led by CEO Sindre Utne, was founded in 1957 and today employs roughly 450 people.

“Sentinel has been a valued partner throughout this important chapter of Autronica’s development,” said Mr. Utne. “Their strategic support helped us accelerate growth while remaining focused on our employees, customers, and long-term vision. We’re proud of and grateful for what we accomplished together.”

According to MSA Safety, Autronica generated revenue of approximately $160 million in 2025 at an adjusted EBITDA margin of about 20%, implying adjusted EBITDA of roughly $32 million. At a purchase price of $555 million, the sale values Autronica at approximately 17.3 times adjusted EBITDA.

“It’s been a privilege to work alongside Sindre and the talented Autronica team,” said Eric Bommer, co-managing partner at Sentinel. “Over the past two years, the team has strengthened the business, expanded its global footprint, and built a strong foundation for the future. We thank them for a productive partnership and wish them continued success as part of MSA Safety.”

The buyer, MSA Safety, is a publicly traded developer of industrial safety products and technology that has operated since 1914. The company reported 2025 revenue of $1.9 billion and employs approximately 5,300 people across more than 40 international locations from its headquarters near Pittsburgh in Cranberry Township, Pennsylvania.

Fire and gas detection sits within a market shaped by tightening industrial safety regulation and the adoption of connected monitoring. The U.S. fire and gas detection market was estimated at about $3.7 billion in 2024 and is projected to expand at a compound annual rate of roughly 7.1%, according to Global Growth Insights. Demand is driven by stricter fire codes, rising investment in public and worker safety, and the migration toward IoT-enabled, multi-sensor systems in hazardous settings, trends that favor established providers with certifications for severe environments.
