Savea stars in historic win for Moana

Ardie Savea’s moment of magic inspired Moana Pasifika’s breakthrough victory against the Highlanders in Dunedin on Sunday.

The All Blacks star toed the ball ahead twice before regathering to score in the corner during a 34-29 win at Forsyth Barr Stadium in round 12 of Super Rugby Pacific.

Melani Matavo’s late charge-down try sealed the result after an entertaining second-half shootout featuring scores from Miracle Faiilagi and Danny Toala for the visitors.

Despite a strong performance from two-try hero Jonah Lowe, the Highlanders now face wooden spoon prospects after their eighth defeat of the season.

The historic result propels Moana to sixth position on the standings, one spot ahead of the defending champion Blues, while the Highlanders remain second from bottom.
