Former Orlando Pirates head coach Jose Riveiro is reportedly set to join Egyptian giants Al Ahly in the coming days.
The 49-year-old recently departed from the Buccaneers after a successful three-year tenure with the Soweto club.
Since his exit, speculation has arisen regarding the possibility of him signing some of his former players. Relebohile Mofokeng and Mohau Nkota are among those linked with a potential move to the Red Devils ahead of the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup.
When asked if he would want to sign Orlando Pirates at his new club, Jose Riveiro said it was not up to him.
“It’s a difficult question, Pirates is full of talent, full of really good prospects. But that’s not my role and will never be. Right now in modern football, we as coaches have a say obviously in the players who are coming and going, but it belongs more to the strategic side of the business,” he told Radio 947.
Riveiro could sign Pirates players
“In this case, for Orlando Pirates and whichever club wants to look at our talent here,” Riveiro added. “The role that I’m playing in that kind of situation and operation is minimal, and whatever happens in the future is not going to have a straight relation with my decision, my influence, or my opinion,” he concluded.
Orlando Pirates are yet to reveal Riveiro’s replacement, but Pitso Mosimane and Rulani Mokwena are heavily linked to the club. The former Mamelodi Sundowns coaches are both without a club.
Should Orlando Pirates bring back Rulani or should Pitso Mosimane be the man to succeed the Spaniard?
