The Riverstone Mall in Meyerton, a small town 18 km north of Vereeniging in Gauteng, is set to open on 27 March 2025. This 20,000m² convenience mall will feature approximately 53 retail tenants, including anchor stores like Checkers FreshX, Woolworths Food, and Dis-Chem. Shoppers can also look forward to a mix of fashion, financial services, grocery, entertainment, and dining options.
With over 1,000 parking bays, a food court, and two drive-thru outlets, the mall is designed to cater to all needs. Alley Roads, the developer, revealed that the construction phase created over 1,200 jobs.
Riverstone Mall is part of Alley Roads’ 175,000m² development pipeline targeting underserved township and peri-urban areas across South Africa. The R600 million investment in Meyerton includes 337 residential units adjacent to the mall and a second phase featuring 3,000m² of motor-related retail.
Pretorius, representing Alley Roads, emphasized the company’s strategy of building thriving communities. “Initial market studies show that Meyerton, centrally located between Johannesburg and the Vaal Triangle, is growing at 2% to 3% annually. The area plays a catalytic role within the R59 development corridor,” he said.
The Group also highlighted its recent achievements, including developing over 1,000 fully off-grid apartments across seven projects in the past year. These provide tenants with stable power at predictable costs and ensure steady annuity income for funders.
Looking ahead, Alley Roads plans to roll out its 175,000m² retail development pipeline over the next seven years, focusing on Gauteng with opportunities in the North West, Free State, and Western Cape. The company will develop rural convenience retail centers ranging from 6,000m² to 12,000m².
“On completion, our total investment into the Meyerton community will exceed R600 million,” Pretorius added.
