president Samia’s Upcoming Opening of the JP Magufuli Bridge on June 19

The President of the United Republic of Tanzania, Dr. Samia Suluhu Hassan, is expected to be the guest of honor at the inauguration of the JP Magufuli Bridge (Kigongo-Busisi) on June 19, 2025. 

This bridge, measuring 3 kilometers in length, along with its connecting roads totaling 1.66 kilometers, was announced by Prime Minister Kassim Majaliwa during his inspection of the completed structure, which will stand as the ” longest bridge”  in East and Central Africa.

Prime Minister Majaliwa urged the public to prepare for a warm welcome for the President on the opening day. 

Meanwhile, Minister of Construction Abdallah Ulega highlighted that the government, under Dr. Samia’s leadership, has successfully financed the bridge’s construction with local funds, marking a historic achievement for the nation.

 Over 700 billion shillings have been invested in this project, which links the towns of Kigongo and Busisi on Lake Victoria, the third-largest lake in the world.

Ulega also assured residents of Sengerema District that the government will continue to develop the Segerema-Nyehunge (54.5 km) and Kamanga-Sengerema (32 km) roads to enhance connectivity and stimulate the local economy.

This bridge will significantly improve transportation for citizens and facilitate timely business activities, serving as a vital economic asset for both small and large traders by easing the movement of goods. Additionally, its proximity to Lake Victoria positions it as a key player in tourism, promising to attract more international visitors and enhance the region’s development
