The Katsina State Police Command has arrested four suspected drug traffickers in possession of 5,000 Exol tablets and 430 Tramadol tablets, believed to be bound for neighbouring Niger Republic.
According to a statement issued by the Command’s spokesperson, DSP Abubakar Aliyu, the suspects were apprehended on Friday at about 2:00 p.m. at the Kofar Guga garage in Katsina metropolis, following credible intelligence.
The suspects — Aliyu Idris, 23, Abubakar Sa’idu, 20, Abubakar Suleiman, and Tajuddeen Umar, 35 — all residents of Katsina, were allegedly attempting to smuggle the illicit drugs to Maradi in Niger Republic.
“Upon search, the drugs were found in their possession. During interrogation, the suspects confessed to the crime and claimed they received the consignment from a supplier identified only as Abba, based in the FCT, Abuja, who is currently at large,” the statement read.
The Commissioner of Police in the state, CP Bello Shehu, commended the operatives for the arrest and reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to tackling drug trafficking and related crimes. He also urged residents to report suspicious activities to security agencies promptly.
Efforts are ongoing to apprehend the fleeing supplier and ensure he is brought to justice, police said.
