PETROAN lauds NNPCL’s running of Port Harcourt refinery for 180 days nonstop

The Petroleum Products Retail Outlets Owners Association of Nigeria, PETROAN, has praised the Nigerian government and the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited, NNPCL, for successfully running the revamped Port Harcourt Refinery for 180 consecutive days.

Joseph Obele, PETROAN’s spokesperson, disclosed this in a statement on Tuesday.

This follows the continued operation of the Port Harcourt Refinery 180 days after its rehabilitation in October last year.

Reacting to the development, PETROAN reiterated that the refinery has been supplying petroleum products to its members over the past months.

“The refinery, which had been dormant for over 20 years, was revamped with a loan secured from Afreximbank and executed by Tecnimont Nigeria Limited.

“The refinery, commissioned in October 2024, has been running continuously for 180 days up to March, a remarkable feat that underscores the effectiveness of the rehabilitation project.

“PETROAN is pleased to note that its members are currently loading AGO (diesel) and DPK (kerosene) from the refinery, while NNPCL retail marketers are loading PMS (petrol).

“This development has not only ensured a steady supply of petroleum products but has also helped eliminate the circulation of fake kerosene and diesel in the market.

“PETROAN commends the Federal Government and the NNPCL management for their vision and commitment to revitalising Nigeria’s refining capacity. The association believes this achievement will positively impact the country’s energy security, economy, and employment opportunities,” he stated.

Recall that NNPCL announced the commencement of production at Port Harcourt Refinery in November 2024.
