Paul Roos overturned a 14-point deficit to beat Wynberg, while there were also wins for St Andrew’s and Kearsney on Saturday.
Hosts Wynberg made the perfect start to their clash against Paul Roos with tries from tighthead prop Luqobo Makwedini and right wing Chad Campbell, both converted by inside centre Yaqeen Ahmed.
But the visitors hit back with a try by Gert Kemp just before half time and the No 8 went over again from a lineout maul early in the second half to help level the scores.
Ahmed put Wynberg 17-14 ahead with a penalty goal after Paul Roos right wing Divan Lamprecht was yellow-carded for preventing a player from chasing a kick.
In the 57th minute, Paul Roos were awarded a penalty try when Wynberg collapsed a maul just before their line, and the visitors then showed great determination on defence to secure the win.
In other Western Cape matches, star centre Markus Muller scored two of Paarl Gim’s 10 tries in an 82-7 thrashing of SACS while Paarl Boys’ beat Bishops 33-12.
In the Eastern Cape, winger Asante Chivere’s last-minute try gave St Andrew’s College a 25-22 victory against Kingswood College at City Lords.
Kearsney College needed two late tries to snatch a 26-25 win against Stithians College, while Maritzburg College edged Hilton 23-20 in another clash in KZN.
