Orlando Pirates get word on Mokwena & Mosimane!

Orlando Pirates have yet to confirm their coach for next season following the departure of Spaniard Jose Riveiro, who achieved five domestic cups during his three-year tenure.

Several names are rumoured to be on the Buccaneers shortlist, including former Mamelodi Sundowns manager Rulani Mokwena. The PSL winner is a free agent after being dismissed by Wydad Athletic at the end of the season.

However, it isn’t only Orlando Pirates who are reportedly monitoring Mokwena – Egyptian giants Zamalek are too in the conversation.

Like Pirates, the recent Egyptian Cup winners are interested in Mokwena and Pitso Mosimane; however, the former doesn’t want to compete with his former colleague.

“I didn’t hear from them (Zamalek) after I had said I heard that coach Pitso was also in the running for this position,” Mokwena told SuperSport’s Africa Soccer show.

“My relationship and my respect for him would not allow me to compete for the same coaching job with coach Pitso.”

“It just wouldn’t sit well with me, so I pulled out. I said I would rather they give it to Pitso.”

“Exactly what you are saying, my agent said, ‘But this is a big club’, and I said my respect for Pitso and what he has done for my career wouldn’t allow me to do that.”

Mayele latest

Orlando Pirates target Fiston Mayele will leave Pyramids this offseason, the only uncertainty remains as to who he will join. According to reports, the prolific striker has several suitors interested.

“Mayele’s career with Pyramids FC will end at the end of the current season. The player will leave after the Zamalek and Pyramids match in the Egypt Cup final.”

“Mayele has received incredible offers, offers exceeding $3 million (R55 million) and reaching $4 million (R74 million) per season. The player is receiving $1 million per season from Pyramids, but he completely refuses to continue.”

“Pyramids Club, in appreciation of the player and the fact that he is the top scorer in the African Champions League and was one of the reasons the team won the championship,” Egyptian publication Al-Masry Al-Youm revealed.
