Oppo Watch X2 Launches In SA On 20 June Priced At R7,000

South African Android users looking to upgrade their wearables without resorting to Samsung or (shudder) Apple could cast their eyes in the direction of the Oppo Watch X2. Officially launching in South Africa from 20 June, the upgraded version of Oppo’s last wearable will set you back R7,000.

Worth switching up? That’s something we can only definitely answer once it arrives, but Oppo certainly thinks its new hardware is worthy of investing in. Well, they would. It’s in the job description.

Watch X2 (not the movie)

Buyers can expect a 1.5in 466 x 466 sapphire crystal LPTO AMOLED display (that’s a lot of qualifiers) from Oppo’s newest wearable, powered by a Snapdragon W5 Gen 1 with 2GB of RAM and 32GB of storage, all housed inside a stainless steel chassis.

Befitting a device designed for exercise, the Watch X2 comes with both an IP68 and a 5ATM rating. Those technically don’t agree, but only one of them deals with dust. Long story short, you can dive up to 50 metres with the Watch X2 without anything untoward happening. It also features a military-spec toughness rating (MIL-STD-810), with the 648mAh battery letting it survive up to five days (or up to sixteen days with Power Saver Mode active).

Internally, upgrades to the heart-rate and blood oxygen sensors allow for tracking of ECG and arterial stiffness data, how much you’re moving (and snoring) during the night, as well as the conventional stuff you’ve come to expect from a fitness watch. ColorOS Watch 7.0, layered over Google’s WearOS 5.0, provides software coverage whether you’re tracking basic steps and time spent on the couch or something more active like racquet sports, a newly covered activity.

If numbers and specs don’t do it for you (they should — this is a smartwatch), the Watch X2 also looks like something you’d like to have banging around on your wrist. Except you’ve got it cinched tight so the sensors work properly. Right?

“With the Oppo Watch X2, we are not just offering a smartwatch, we are delivering a companion that empowers South Africans to take charge of their health, time, and ambitions. It is smart technology with a human purpose,” Oppo SA’s Bradley Young.
