A Liberia-flagged dry bulk vessel was struck by an unidentified projectile while transiting the Strait of Hormuz near Oman’s coast on Tuesday, forcing the crew to abandon ship and leaving one seafarer missing, according to maritime security sources.
British maritime risk management company Vanguard said the projectile reportedly hit the ship’s engine room, triggering a fire in the accommodation area, according to the Jerusalem Post.
The crew was battling the blaze and seeking assistance, while the vessel’s third engineer was reported missing.
The ship involved, the Minoan Pioneer, is operated by Greece-based Modion Maritime Management, which did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
