Leaders from the Northern Senatorial District of Ondo State have urged Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa to consider acquiring more sophisticated equipment as well as deploying technology to enhance the performance of the Amotekun Corps in to boost the security of the state.
While appealing to Aiyedatiwa to recruit more personnel into Amotekun to ensure more boots are on the ground, the leaders tasked the governor on the Security Trust Fund, through an Executive Bill.
According to the leaders, who were led by former Senator, Dr. Bode Olajumoke, during a courtesy visit to the governor in his office in Akure, the Security Trust Fund will bring about a more effective coordination, synergy, and improved funding for internal security in the state.
Olajumoke, who hailed Aiyedatiwa for his early strides in governance, particularly in infrastructure development, urged the governor to prioritize equitable distribution of development across the three senatorial districts and intensify efforts in tackling security challenges in the area.
The former senator, who represented Ondo North Senatorial District at the National Assembly, encouraged the governor to be cautious in selecting the remaining members of his cabinet, emphasising the need for competence and fairness.
On his part, Aiyedatiwa appreciated the delegation, reaffirming his administration’s commitment to security, noting that 115 military personnel are being deployed to the Akoko axis to tackle recent challenges.
The governor, who emphasized that the protection of lives and property remains a top priority for his administration, assured of even development across all local government areas of the State.
Aiyedatiwa, who expressed willingness to consider the proposed security trust fund and disclosed plans to bolster the Amotekun Corps with more personnel, stressed the importance of traditional institutions with assurance that royal fathers would always be carried along in his administration.
The governor also promised that the crisis between Akungba and Idogun would be given the attention it deserves.
