OIC General Secretariat Delegation Commends The Gambia’s Chairmanship of the Islamic Summit، and its International Efforts in the Rohingya Issue, during Meeting with H.E. President of the Republic of The Gambia

A delegation from the General Secretariat of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), led by Assistant Secretary General for Humanitarian Affairs, H.E. Dr. Tarig Ali Bakheet, paid a courtesy call on H.E. Mr. Adama Barrow, President of the Republic of The Gambia. 

During the meeting, the Assistant Secretary General conveyed the warm greetings of the OIC Secretary General, H.E. Mr. Hissein Brahim Taha, and expressed the Organization’s deep appreciation for The Gambia’s exemplary and constructive leadership in its capacity as the current Chair of the OIC Islamic Summit.
The ASG particularly commended The Gambia for its historic and courageous initiative in instituting proceedings against Myanmar at the International Court of Justice on behalf of OIC Member States, seeking accountability for the crimes committed against the Rohingya Muslim minority. He emphasized that The Gambia’s steadfast pursuit of the Rohingya case has been instrumental in keeping the plight of the Rohingya on the international agenda and in upholding the principles of justice and the rule of law.
Both sides exchanged views on matters of mutual interest, including the latest developments in the Rohingya case and other key challenges facing the Muslim Ummah. They also discussed prospects for strengthening cooperation between the OIC General Secretariat and The Gambia in the political, humanitarian, scientific and technological, and development fields in the period ahead.
