Nine bodies found on Niger road after abductions

The Niger State Police Command has confirmed the recovery of nine bodies on the Wawa-Lumma road in Borgu Local Government Area of Niger State.

According to the News Agency of Nigeria, the victims were suspected to have been killed by bandits while travelling on the road.

The spokesperson for the state police command, Wasiu Abiodun, disclosed this in Minna on Wednesday.

According to him, a team of police and military personnel was dispatched to evacuate the bodies after receiving the information on Tuesday.

He said clearance operations had been intensified to secure the area from any security threat.

“The police and military tactical teams were mobilised to the scene; the bodies were recovered, while clearance operations were intensified to secure the area,” he said.

The development came days after security agencies rescued 308 persons abducted in separate attacks in Kwara and Niger states.

Of the 308 rescued victims, 163 were abducted from Woro Community in Kaiama Local Government Area of Kwara State, while 145 others were kidnapped in a separate attack in Niger State.

The victims were rescued from the Kainji Lake National Park forest in New Bussa Local Government Area of Niger State during a coordinated, intelligence-led operation involving the National Counter-Terrorism Centre, the Armed Forces, the Department of State Services and the Nigeria Police Force.
