Nigeria’s Democracy May End if Tinubu’s ‘Dictatorship’ Continues – SDP’s Adebayo

The presidential candidate of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), Adewole Adebayo, has warned that Nigeria’s democracy could be at risk if what he described as President Bola Tinubu’s “dictatorship” persists.

Adebayo made the remark on Wednesday during an appearance on Arise Television’s Morning Show, where he discussed the country’s political and economic situation.

According to him, issues such as subsidy are not at the heart of Nigeria’s major challenges, arguing that the survival of democracy should be the country’s primary concern.

“What I know is that subsidy and some of these issues are not central to the challenges the country is facing. The real challenge is democracy itself.

“Democracy may end if we allow the burden of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s dictatorship to continue.

“It may end if we cannot guarantee free, fair and credible elections, or if we continue to generate voter apathy because we cannot articulate a clear alternative before Nigerians of what the country can become in a short order,” he said.

Adebayo stressed the need for credible elections and a convincing political alternative capable of restoring citizens’ confidence in the democratic process.

He maintained that addressing voter apathy and ensuring that Nigerians have meaningful choices at the polls would be crucial to preserving the country’s democracy.
