Nigeria to host Ghana, Sierra Leone in cricket tourney

Nigeria, Ghana, Sierra Leone and Nigeria A will go head-to-head in the Nigeria T20 Quadrangular Series from September 21 to 27, 2026, at the iconic TBS Cricket Oval in Lagos, PUNCH Sports Extra reports.

The Nigeria Cricket Federation announced the new tournament on Saturday as parts of broader efforts to deepen the country’s calendar.

Nigeria will field two teams in the competition, with the Yellow Greens expected to use the series as part of their preparations for upcoming international engagements.

The Yellow Greens have been in camp under new high-performance manager Stephen Mangongo, who was unveiled in May after signing a three-year deal with the Nigeria Cricket Federation.

Mangongo replaced Kenyan coach Steve Tikolo, who left the role earlier this year after more than three years in charge.

The series will be the Zimbabwean’s second assignment with Nigeria following the Namibia Tri-Series in June.

The T20 Quadrangular Series will also serve as a tune-up for the Yellow Greens ahead of the 2028 T20 World Cup Africa Sub-Regional C Qualifier, scheduled to take place in Abuja from October 18 to 25.

For this year’s edition of the qualifier, the Yellow Greens will be joined by Gambia, Lesotho, Mozambique, Uganda and Zambia, with the six countries battling for the top two spots.

The two successful teams will advance to the regional final next year, where places at the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2028 in Australia and New Zealand will be at stake.

Ultimately, the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup Africa Qualifier 2027 will offer two teams direct qualification places for the 2028 global showpiece.
