Nabi addresses striker coach talks after frustrating draw

Nasreddine Nabi addresses striker coach talks after frustrating draw.

The Kaizer Chiefs head coach weighed in on the need for a striker coach after Amakhosi squandered multiple chances in a goalless draw against Cape Town City in the Betway Premiership.

Despite dominating possession and creating 17 shots on goal, Chiefs only managed to get three on target, failing to capitalise on their opportunities. The disappointing result kept them stuck in eighth place, missing another chance to climb the league standings.

‘Not about a Striker Coach’

After the match, Nabi made it clear that the issue was not about coaching but rather about execution.

“To not score today is not an issue about a coach for strikers. Probably it’s an idea we can discuss, but it’s not an issue for today’s game,” Nabi said through his interpreter and assistant coach Cedric Kaze.

The Tunisian tactician reiterated his frustration, emphasizing that his team simply needed to be more clinical.

“What was missing was just to put the ball inside the net,” he added when asked about what went wrong for Chiefs on the night.

Chiefs keep repeating the same mistakes

Nabi expressed his disappointment over the club’s recurring failure to capitalise on opportunities to climb the table. The draw against Cape Town City mirrored previous matches where Chiefs dropped points despite dominating play.

“It’s not dramatic, but it’s very bad because it’s not the first time we have a chance to go back and we lose the points. If you remember from the start of the season, the mistake continued. Same. You have a chance to go up, you lose the chance,” Nabi stated.

The coach admitted the team needs serious evaluation to fix these ongoing issues.

“In the moment, you need evaluation. Why? Because you have a problem. Because today, the normal score is 3-0 or 4-0. We don’t score, but I take responsibility,” he concluded.

What’s next for Chiefs?

With goal-scoring struggles holding them back, Chiefs must find a solution fast. Will they finally break their scoring drought, or will wasted chances continue to haunt them? The pressure is mounting as the season progresses.
