MTN South Sudan opens Rumbek ICT hub
MTN South Sudan has launched an ICT hub in Rumbek, Lakes State, aimed at giving young people access to digital skills, technology and opportunities linked to the country’s growing digital economy.
The Rumbek ICT Hub was officially launched on September 8, bringing together government representatives, educational institutions, community leaders, development partners and youth organisations. The facility will provide digital learning resources, ICT training and innovation programmes for young people and other members of the community.
The hub is designed to support students, young entrepreneurs and job seekers who need access to technology and digital skills. It will also provide a shared environment where users can develop ideas and work on solutions to challenges affecting their communities.
MTN South Sudan CEO Madam Mapula Bodibe said the investment is intended to create opportunities for young people while supporting innovation and entrepreneurship in Lakes State.
“Through this ICT Hub, we are creating a space where knowledge can be exchanged, talents can be nurtured, and future innovators can be empowered to shape the development of Lakes State and South Sudan as a whole.” Said Bodibe
The launch also received support from South Sudan’s National Minister of Information, Communication Technology and Postal Services, Honourable Ateny Wek Ateny, who said the facility supports the government’s digital transformation and youth development priorities.
“The establishment of the ICT Hub in Rumbek is an important step in advancing South Sudan’s digital transformation agenda. We want to create spaces where our young people can access technology, develop digital and artificial intelligence skills, and become active participants in the digital economy. Government cannot achieve this alone, which is why partnerships with institutions such as MTN South Sudan are critical as we expand ICT hubs, improve connectivity in underserved areas, and bring digital opportunities closer to our people.” He said.
The Rumbek facility is part of MTN South Sudan’s broader efforts to increase access to technology and digital education, particularly in communities where opportunities for ICT training remain limited.
The initiative comes as South Sudan works to expand digital access and develop the skills needed for greater participation in the digital economy. For young people in Lakes State, the new facility provides a local point of access to technology and training without requiring them to travel elsewhere for such opportunities.
MTN South Sudan said the hub will support its wider focus on digital inclusion and community development to help more people participate in the country’s digital transformation.
