MTN Releases Cheaper Price Plan Specials For Its Home Internet Service

MTN, two weeks into celebrating its “Today We Make Moves” rebrand, has released full price plans for its 5G and fibre offerings, rejigged for better affordability so more people can get access. The affordable Shesha plan, as well as a two-month special on its fibre plan, should ease the cost of home internet access for middle-class and low-income households.

MTN turns down the price pressure

The Shesha plan breaks down into two tiers:

  • Shesha 200 gives users 100GB of data at 5G speeds (at best), plus another 100GB for 10Mbps for R330 monthly.
  • For R400 a month, Shesha 600 gives buyers 300GB at 5G speeds (at best), adding another 300GB for 20Mbps.

Customers in 4G locations can opt for MTN’s fiber plans instead. For the first two months only, MTN is giving customers reduced prices for uncapped connectivity on month-to-month contracts. Buyers get a free-to-use router and the delivery and installation thereof, for free. Home Internet customers also get 50% off select mobile plans.

  • In conjunction with MetroFibre, buyers can get the cheapest 25/25 Mbps plan for R280, down R200 from R480, or
  • a 45/45 Mbps plan for R400, down R300 from its usual R700
  • Octotel offers 55/25 Mbps speeds for R280, reduced from R580
  • Frogfoot offers 60/30 Mbps speeds for R400, down from R640
  • Vumatel offers 50/50 Mbps speeds for R480
  • Lastly, 100/50 Mbps speeds from OpenServe for R230, down a substantial R600 from the usual R830

It’s worth reiterating that prices revert to normal after two months.

MTN South Africa’s Postpaid and Residential General Manager, Bertus Van der Vyver, summed up MTN’s intentions with this move: “Our investment in 5G infrastructure is not just about delivering faster speeds. It’s about driving innovation, efficiency, and growth across all sectors of society. By offering reliable home internet, we’re making sure that every South African has the tools they need to succeed in the digital world.”
