MTN Elite One Final Matchday Showdowns to Decide Survival and Glory

The 2024-2025 season of MTN Elite One championship concludes this weekend. At the top of the table, Colombe du Dja-et-Lobo has already clinched the title, surpassing all challengers. The leading club from the South Region celebrates its first-ever national championship win, marking a significant milestone in its history.

Conversely, the fight to avoid relegation has reached a fever pitch. Two of the four teams destined for the drop are already confirmed. Yong Sport Academy (YOSA) withdrew from the league, guaranteeing a last-place finish, and Union de Douala is also set for relegation.

Five other clubs remain mathematically at risk of joining them in MTN Elite Two, making this final matchday decisive.

Among those facing a critical moment is Dynamo de Douala, whose fans are calling Saturday’s match against AS Fortuna a cup final. Scheduled for Annex 1 of the Ahmadou Ahidjo Stadium in Yaoundé, Dynamo only needs a draw to ensure survival. Just two weeks ago, the club was in the relegation zone, but a 3-1 win on June 28 over Aigle du Moungo in a rescheduled Matchday 22 fixture gave them some breathing room.

Meanwhile, AS Fortuna also needs a win to stay afloat and will be pushing hard at home. This showdown is expected to be one of the marquee matchups of the 30th and final round of the season.

Survival at Stake in Douala

Another high-stakes encounter will take place at the Bepanda Stadium in Douala, where Les Astres hosts Bamboutos de Mbouda. The Mangwa Boys, who briefly withdrew from the league before returning with a string of crucial victories, had the chance to secure survival on June 29 at home against league leaders Colombe. That match ended in a 1-1 draw, leaving Bamboutos still in danger.

Now they face a Les Astres side also desperate to avoid relegation. The winner will almost certainly secure its place in the top flight for another year.

Aigle du Moungo is also not out of danger yet. The Nkongsamba-based club faces Victoria in Douala and will need a strong result to avoid slipping into the bottom four.

This season, four teams will be relegated from Elite One, but only two will be promoted. Aigle Royale de la Menoua and Unisport de Bafang have already secured their return to the top division.
