MTN Elite One : Colombe Awarded Win as Bamboutos Miss Third Straight Match

Colombe du Dja-et-Lobo was awarded three points in the MTN Elite One championship after their opponents, Bamboutos de Mbouda, failed to appear for their scheduled 22nd-round match last Sunday. Colombe, the current leaders of the Cameroonian league, benefited from the no-show. “We came to Mbouda expecting three points, and we are leaving with those three points,” stated Aimé Mvomo Andjongo, the secretary general of the Dja-et-Lobo club.

This marks the third consecutive match Bamboutos, nicknamed the “Mangwa Boys,” have failed to play. The absences stem from a decision by some club executives to withdraw the team. However, this decision was not supported by Elie Saker Tshouongang, the chairman of Bamboutos’ board, who issued a letter of apology to the Cameroonian Football Federation (Fecafoot).

Despite the earlier withdrawal, Bamboutos players were expected to return to the pitch this weekend for the match against Colombe. Yet, the team was once again absent. According to a senior source within the Bamboutos locker room, the failure to return was due to ongoing demands for unpaid wages, with several players insisting on receiving their dues before resuming play. Elie Saker Tshouongang has not confirmed this information.

The source also indicated that there are discussions circulating within the club’s forums encouraging a return to training, suggesting a potential resumption of activity. With eight matchdays remaining in the season, a return to competition remains a possibility for Bamboutos, who are currently situated in the relegation zone of the league standings.
