Morocco expands direct cucumber exports to Germany, setting new seasonal records • EastFruit

Morocco’s cucumber exports to Germany continue to break records, with the 2025/26 season already surpassing last year’s peak, according to EastFruit. Germany imported 3,900 tons of Moroccan cucumbers between July 2025 and March 2026, valued at more than EUR 8 million. This represents a 10% increase over the previous season and a 28-fold rise compared to 2021/22.

German buyers now source Moroccan cucumbers year-round, with demand peaking between November and February. December 2025 was the strongest month, with imports approaching 1,000 tons.

Spain and the Netherlands remain Germany’s dominant suppliers, together covering more than 80% of imports. Morocco’s official share rose from 0.5% last season to 0.8% in the first nine months of 2025/26. Yet actual volumes are higher, as Spain purchases Moroccan cucumbers and re-exports them across Europe, including to Germany.

The sharp increase in direct shipments reflects a structural shift in Morocco’s export strategy. By bypassing European distribution hubs, Moroccan exporters are strengthening their direct presence in Northern European markets.

This achievement builds on Morocco’s broader success in cucumbers, with the country setting an overall export record in 2024/25.
