The government has emphasized its commitment to ensuring that farmers in the country are equipped to engage in modern, productive livestock farming, moving away from outdated methods, in collaboration with various stakeholders in the livestock sector both domestically and internationally.
This was stated yesterday by the Deputy Minister of Livestock and Fisheries, Alexander Mnyeti, during the launch of the Third Livestock Exhibition of Three Countries 2025, held in the village of Ubena Zomozi, Chalinze District, Bagamoyo. The exhibition is sponsored by NMB Bank and organized by Mbogo Ranches Company, under the theme: “Building Partnerships, Promoting Agriculture.”
The exhibition was attended by farmers from three countries: Tanzania, Kenya, and Namibia, along with the Kenyan Ambassador to Tanzania, Isaac Njenga, and the High Commissioner of Namibia, Lebbius Thobias, as well as exhibitors showcasing various agricultural equipment and products from different companies.
“Approximately 97 percent of cattle in the country are indigenous, producing an average of 80 to 120 kilograms of meat per cow, and milk ranging from one to three liters per day per cow. This type of production is not efficient, which is why the government is collaborating with various stakeholders to bring about a revolution in this sector,” Mnyeti stated.
On his part, the Head of the Business Department at NMB Bank, Msolo Mlozi, mentioned that the bank has so far disbursed loans worth over 100 billion shillings to farmers across the country for various purposes, including fattening livestock, purchasing quality animal feed, acquiring superior breeds, and building better infrastructure to enhance production.
“Our bank understands the challenges faced by farmers, such as food and water shortages, especially during droughts, livestock diseases, low productivity from indigenous livestock, and the lack of permanent housing for farmers.
Through the loans we provide, farmers can improve or purchase animal feed, drill permanent wells to address water shortages, and also attend various training programs to enhance their skills,” Mlozi stated.
