Microsoft has introduced an AI-powered video generator, Bing Video Creator, directly into its Bing search engine. This new feature, which is powered by OpenAI’s Sora, allows users to create short video clips based on text prompts. The free tool is rolling out to the Bing mobile app starting today, with plans for later availability on desktop and within Copilot Search.

This integration isn’t entirely unexpected. Microsoft has invested billions of dollars into OpenAI over the years to support its artificial intelligence initiatives. This partnership previously led to the integration of OpenAI’s DALL-E image generation into Bing in 2023, and the company is now following a similar strategy with Sora’s video capabilities.

However, Sora’s journey hasn’t been entirely smooth. Its broader availability at the end of last year followed a somewhat “rocky launch,” including a rebuke from YouTube’s CEO regarding training data and protests from some early testing participants. Furthermore, Sora is facing increasing competition from other AI video models, such as Google’s Veo 3, which offer more complex features.
