Meta spokesperson Dave Arnolds reiterated the company’s policy against leaking internal information, emphasizing that employees are briefed on this policy upon joining and receive periodic reminders. Arnolds confirmed that the terminations resulted from a recent investigation and indicated that further actions may be taken to address future leaks.

The crackdown follows a noticeable surge in leaks pertaining to Meta’s internal meetings and product plans, prompting CEO Mark Zuckerberg to express frustration in a leaked memo, stating, “Everything I say, leaks.”

Meta CTO Andrew Bosworth had previously warned employees about the company’s progress in identifying leakers, ironically, those comments themselves leaked. At a February 2025 internal meeting, Bosworth stated, “There’s a funny thing that’s happening with these leaks. When things leak, I think a lot of times people think, ‘Ah, okay, this is leaked, therefore it’ll put pressure on us to change things.’ The opposite is more likely.”

The company’s heightened security measures are part of a broader shift in Meta’s operational strategies. Recent changes include significant reductions in content moderation across its platforms, the discontinuation of diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) programs, and targeted layoffs aimed at “low-performers.”

These actions reflect Meta’s evolving approach to internal security, content moderation, and workforce management, signalling a period of significant change within the company.
