Macron asserts true peace cannot be achieved through Ukraine’s capitulation.

French President Emmanuel Macron said that peace should not equate to Ukraine’s capitulation. During a joint press conference with Trump at the White House on February 24, he cautioned against a global order where might prevails over justice. 

Macron emphasized that Ukraine has fought valiantly for its independence and sovereignty, which are ‘ integral ‘ to collective security. 

He expressed a collective desire to avoid a world where the strongest dictate terms and borders can be arbitrarily altered. 

This statement followed the Trump administration’s initiation of discussions with Russian President Vladimir Putin , advocating for a swift resolution to the conflict that erupted three years prior with Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.

In a notable departure from his predecessor, Joe Biden, Trump is pursuing negotiations that would grant Ukraine control over its substantial mineral resources, potentially impacting U.S. military support for the beleaguered nation.

In an interview with Fox News, Emmanuel Macron characterized President Trump’s entry into the White House as a significant turning point. He expressed optimism about the possibility of initiating discussions for a ceasefire and sustainable peace within a matter of weeks. 

Macron noted that he had engaged with 30 European leaders and allies, many of whom expressed readiness to contribute to security assurances for Ukraine. 

He also mentioned collaborating with Keir Starmer on a proposal to deploy troops to the area. Also , Macron indicated that securing a US commitment to uphold “Ukrainian sovereignty ” could be facilitated through an agreement on critical minerals, which is currently under negotiation between Washington and Kyiv.
