Lenovo has announced its new 10th-generation Legion 9i gaming laptop, a powerhouse 18-inch machine slated for release in China soon and North America in the coming months. This top-tier laptop boasts impressive specifications, including the option for a unique 4K-capable 2D/3D display, an Nvidia RTX 5090 GPU, an Intel Core Ultra 9 275HX CPU, up to a massive 192GB of RAM, and a staggering 8TB of SSD storage.

While Lenovo remains tight-lipped about pricing for these high-end configurations, including the starting price for the base model with a standard 4K non-3D screen, the laptop offers a degree of user customization. The four RAM slots and four SSD slots are designed to be easily accessible, allowing users to upgrade components to their liking.

The standout optional 2D/3D LCD offers a crisp 3840 x 2400 resolution with a smooth 240Hz refresh rate in 2D mode. For 3D content, it displays at 1920 x 1200 resolution. Similar to the Razer Blade 18, the screen also features a dual-mode capability, reaching an ultra-fast 440Hz refresh rate when displaying 2D content at 1920 x 1080. The 3D viewing experience is glasses-free, utilizing eye-tracking technology and a lenticular lens array to create a naked-eye 3D effect. Lenovo is positioning the Legion 9i not only for hardcore gamers but also for game developers, visual artists, and 3D professionals who require a powerful workstation capable of displaying 3D content and renders. Lenovo claims its software supports 30 games playable in 3D, though a list of compatible titles is currently unavailable.

As expected for a laptop designed to rival desktops, the Legion 9i offers a comprehensive array of ports, including two future-proof Thunderbolt 5 ports, four USB 3.2 Gen 2 ports (three Type-A and one Type-C), a dedicated ethernet port, an HDMI 2.1 port, and even a full-size SD card slot. For wireless connectivity, it features Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 5.4 support. The webcam configuration varies slightly depending on the screen choice; the 2D screen model features a 5-megapixel webcam with an f/2 aperture, while the 3D screen option boasts a faster f/1.6 lens. Both webcams include a physical kill switch for enhanced privacy.

Aesthetically, the laptop stands out with its distinctive carbon fibre lid. Lenovo states that each Legion 9i lid is constructed from eight layers of carbon fibre, making it both lighter and stronger than traditional aluminium. Beyond the potential weight savings, the visible carbon fibre weave pattern on the lid is unique to each individual unit, adding a touch of bespoke flair to this high-performance machine. While the price remains a mystery for now, the innovative 3D screen option and unique carbon fibre lid make the Lenovo Legion 9i a compelling and visually interesting contender in the high-end gaming laptop market.
