A lawmaker representing Obokun/Oriade Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Oluwole Oke, on Wednesday, told the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to disregard a petition by the administration of Governor Ademola Adeleke against the immediate past governor of Osun State, Mr Gboyega Oyetola, over alleged misappropriation of $20 million World Bank health grant.
He contended that the Osun State House of Assembly and the state Auditor-General ought to have done the needful before submitting such petition against Oyetola, who is the current Minister for Marine and Blue Economy.
Responding to a Facebook post which he authored, Oke said he would equally criticise anybody that writes petition against Adeleke without due process and diligence.
He stated, “Yes, it’s a straight forward post. If any person writes petition against Governor Adeleke, I will fight such person just like I found someone from my constituency writing petition against the Minister for Marine and Blue Gboyega Oyetola unconscionable.
“The state House of Assembly are Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) members. The House standing committee on Public Accounts have the state Auditor-General Report before them. Was there any query against the Minister of Blue Marine and Economy?
“Has he been invited by the House to appear that he failed to honour? The parliament has been in place for almost two years now. Then one person will just wake up and cook up malicious petitions against a leader and citizen of the state.
“It’s not a crime for a lawyer to take a lawful brief from any member of society or even the government, but to intentionally take a brief to damage people’s reputations and that of their family? No.
“That’s not fair. On one hand, we are preaching peaceful collaboration and on the other hand some enemies of the state who appear as if they’re friends are acting in a manner to put all of us up as enemies of the Federal Government, ” Oke posited.
While apologising to Oyetola, the lawmaker added, “How would the Federal Government believe or trust us that we truly want to collaborate or work together come 2026 and 2027?”
