It’s almost time for the next Huawei product launch. Scheduled for 15 May in Berlin, the tech company is set to unveil its latest smart wearable devices, including what appears to be the Watch 5, the successor to the Watch 4 that launched in 2023, and new editions of its Watch Fit series.
Huawei on your wrist
The company hasn’t officially announced any devices yet, but that hasn’t stopped a few details from leaking, including one or two specs and renders of the upcoming wearables. That’s not counting what could be a new innovation seen in the company’s latest promotional material in the form of an additional side-mounted sensor.
From that, and previous video teasers, we can make out a few details of the Watch 5, like that it will sport a circular watch face, rotating digital crown, and the new side-mounted sensor.
A few of those details were confirmed by premature and now deleted product listings from a Lithuanian online retailer (via GSMArena). Behind the round watch face supposedly lies a 466 x 466px AMOLED panel which will be protected by sapphire glass. And it’ll have an IP68 rating.
None of that is surprising, given that’s the same panel Huawei has used in its last few premium smartwatches, including the old Watch 4 and the much newer Watch GT 5 Pro.
Also unsurprisingly, it should be available in 46mm and 42mm sizes when it eventually launches, and it looks like there’ll be a few colour choices if you don’t fancy a plain black smartwatch.
Time to get fit (4)
Also prematurely posted were renders of the Watch Fit 4 and Watch Fit 4 Pro, almost certainly replacements for the Fit 3, which launched early last year.
Both appear to have the same 1.82in AMOLED display as the Fit 3, with the only discernible difference (so far) being that the Pro will feature Huawei’s TruSense health monitoring system while the base model will retain the older system from the previous generation.
It’s worth repeating that Huawei hasn’t officially confirmed any of these details, so we’re regarding them with the standard pinch of salt until we get confirmation. Luckily, we only have a few weeks left to wait before these devices are unveiled, potentially with others in tow.
