How AFCON and CHAN tournaments will promote sports and tourism in Tanzania.

Prime Minister of Dr .Kassim Majaliwa has stated that the decision by President Samia Suluhu Hassan of the United Republic of Tanzania and President Hussein Ali Mwinyi of Zanzibar to host the AFCON and CHAN tournaments will significantly enhance the development of ” sports and tourism”  in the country. Speaking after inspecting the renovation and construction of Amani, Maisara, and Mao Zedong Stadiums in Zanzibar on April 7, 2025, Majaliwa emphasized that this opportunity will allow Tanzanians to advance their sports skills and motivate players to train harder for these competitions. 

He noted that the influx of visitors during the tournaments will create demand for accommodation, food, and transportation, benefiting those who have invested in hotels and transport services. 

Majaliwa expressed satisfaction with the quality and speed of the renovations being carried out by REFORM and ORKUN, highlighting that these companies have built stadiums that meet acceptable standards.

He added that the current priority is to protect the infrastructure to maintain the quality achieved through renovations until the tournaments take place, reminding citizens that the stadiums are currently under special inspection by the African Football Confederation.

While the government will not prevent the use of these venues for major events, he stressed the importance of regular maintenance to ensure they meet the necessary standards for hosting such competitions.  

The Prime Minister pointed out that these tournaments will bring significant benefits to various sectors, including tourism and commerce, presenting a valuable opportunity for the nation.
