Houthis Fire 5 Ballistic Missiles Toward Bab al‑Mandeb, Yemen Army Reports

Aden — A Yemeni military source said Monday that Houthi forces launched 5 ballistic missiles toward sites near the Bab al‑Mandeb Strait, escalating tensions in the strategic waterway.

The source, speaking to Germany’s DPA news agency on condition of anonymity, said the missiles were fired from Ibb province and the Al‑Houbban area east of Taiz.

Government forces are still assessing whether the strikes caused any damage.

The attack follows Sunday’s announcement by the Yemeni army that Houthis targeted Mokha, near Bab al‑Mandeb, with ballistic missiles and drones.

Repeated strikes in recent days have halted operations at the vital Mokha port, causing extensive destruction and financial losses estimated at $16 million.

In response, the Yemeni armed forces reported carrying out 181 military operations over the weekend, including drone raids and missile strikes on Houthi positions across several provinces. The army said dozens of Houthi fighters were killed or wounded, and multiple vehicles destroyed.

The developments mark a sharp escalation in fighting since early July, with heavy casualties reported on both sides as government troops and Houthi forces intensify their campaigns across Yemen’s frontlines.
