The Spar Indoor Hockey IPT got off to a thrilling start, with South Africa’s best indoor hockey teams battling for provincial pride at the Beaulieu College in Johannesburg on Wednesday, 26 February, 2025.
Defending champions KZN Raiders faced a strong challenge as teams fought to make their mark in the opening matches, unable to score and going down 2-nil to a superior Southern Gauteng team on Day 1.
North West and SG Witsies battled to a goalless draw, neither side able to crack their opponent’s defensive resilience to edge a win.
Western Province showcased their attacking firepower, with Kayla de Waal netting a hat-trick in a 6-1 triumph over Mpumalanga to lead the Day 1 A Section Pool B log lead, on goal difference.

Northern Blues secured a crucial 2-1 victory over WP Peninsula, holding firm to their lead despite late pressure.
South African Nationals Alex Kavanagh and Bonolo Moabi both scored as the hosts Southern Gauteng defeated the holders KZN Raiders 2-0.
Shanay de Klerk was unstoppable in the Women’s B Section, bagging a hat-trick in a commanding 5-0 rout for Northerns Invitational over Southerns Invitational, while KZN Inland gave Eastern Gauteng no room to move in their 4-0 emphatic win.
