Haiti Schedules First Elections in a Decade

Haiti’s Provisional Electoral Council (CEP) on Monday scheduled the country’s first elections in a decade, setting the first round of the presidential and legislative vote for December despite ongoing security concerns.

The new election calendar set the first round of elections for Dec. 13, with a runoff vote scheduled for Feb. 21. The final results will be published by March 7.

Voters will also decide on a series of constitutional changes and on local representatives. Voter registration opened on July 20 and candidates will be able to register until Oct. 2.

Earlier this month, the CEP published a definitive list of more than 300 political parties approved to compete in the upcoming polls.
