Guinea Fowl: Great for Ticks, Terrible at Common Sense

Guinea fowl, or guinea hens, whatever you want to call them, have blown up in popularity. The reason being they instinctively eat insects all day, every day! They can apparently really cut down on the ticks on people’s properties, which is great, but there are some pros and cons when it comes to these weird-looking birds.

The biggest con is they are possibly the dumbest animal in the entire world. They forget to go to their house to roost at night and then end up getting attacked by predators. They are also very loud, which is not the best for close neighbours unless they’re OK with some tick management too! Which leads to another point: they roam everywhere and have no road awareness!

Not saying they don’t have their charm, but don’t get them and think they will be no work to take care of. You do need to keep a close eye on them. If you’re up for that, they certainly can make great tick fighters and can bring some interesting company to your property.

I speak from experience, having grown up around these little clowns all my life!
