GFF prexy Kemo Ceesay inaugurates Match Event Management Committee

The task force will plan, organise, and execute all operations and logistical arrangements for The Gambia’s 2027 TotalEnergies AFCON qualifiers, to be held at home in The Gambia on 25th September, 2026.

President Ceesay appointed his two contenders from last month’s GFF Presidential Elections to serve on the Committee. While Mr Sadibou Kamaso declined the appointment, Colonel Musa M. Balla Jammeh accepted and participated in today’s inauguration.

Speaking at the event, President Kemo Ceesay thanked all stakeholders for attending.

Ceesay emphasised the importance of the forthcoming match as a test for CAF’s permanent approval of the Independence Stadium.

“It’s a big job we are supposed to do, both for our team and for the approval of the Stadium,” Ceesay remarked.

 Ceesay challenged all Committee members to dedicate themselves to the task to ensure a successful outcome for the game.

Second Vice of the GFF  President and Chairman of the Committee, Mr Bakary Bojang, praised the taskforce members for their foresight and thanked them for their appointments to the Committee.

“Every sector is represented here, and I’m sure we can achieve our objectives by the end of the day.

We are confident of victory if our organisation is well put in place,” Bojang said.

Colonel Mus Jammeh, for his part, once again congratulated President Ceesay on the elections, stating that Allah never does wrong and that whatever He decides is best for us.

 Jammeh also thanked him for inviting him to join the Committee.

The CAF Safety and Security Liaison Officer emphasised the importance of the match, noting that safety and security are paramount at CAF-sanctioned matches.

 He said a security plan had been devised for previous matches and successfully implemented.

He therefore urged the Committee members to commit to the game to help transition from temporary to permanent approval of the Stadium.

The task force committee also highlighted other vital components, such as match operations, traffic management, protocol delegation and logistics, accreditation, ticketing and gate control, media operations, public awareness, and medical and emergency services, among a host of other match organisation elements.

The taskforce also comprises representatives from the Government of The Gambia, the Independence Stadium management, the Sports Journalist Association of The Gambia, and all heads of departments at the GFF.

 The Committee is set to meet regularly henceforth to achieve the target for the full implementation of match logistics.
