Gambian man arrested in Paceville on drug trafficking charges

A man from Gambia was arrested in Paceville after being found in possession of several different types of drugs.

The arrest was made in the night between Monday and Tuesday, as police officials carried out inspections and patrols in the Paceville area of St Julian’s.

The man, who is 31 years old and who lives in Gzira, was noted by officers on the St Rita stairs which lead up to Paceville.  As police approached him, he tried to escape, but was caught, arrested, and searched.

He was found to be in possession of 31 green pills split up into 14 packets, five pink pills split up in four packets, 15 packets containing a substance thought to be cannabis, 11 packets containing a substance thought to be cocaine, and two packets containing crystals thought to be methamphetamine.

He was also carrying cash and two mobile phones on his person.

The man’s residence was also searched, and there officers found more packets containing substances thought to be cannabis cocaine, methamphetamine, and pills thought to be ecstasy.

Police said that the man was taken to the police depot in Floriana under arrest, and is expected to be charged in the coming days.
